I had the good fortune to meet Patrice Valette on the island of Flores during a recent trip to Indonesia. Patrice, the warm and generous man behind Kafe de Flores, had come to promote his coffee in a coffee shop where I had sat down for a drink.
We started chatting when I heard him speaking French. When he told me what he was doing in Indonesia, I shared my keen interest in good coffee and coffee farming. As we were parting ways, he generously gave me two bags of his coffee, an exceptional Robusta that I shared with a number of Vietnamese connoisseurs who agreed with me that it was an outstanding product.
During this meeting with Patrice, I tasted an unforgettable Arabica that I can't wait to share with my Parisian friends upon my return from Southeast Asia.

I had the opportunity a few weeks ago to taste Kafe de Flores for the first time in my life. An Indonesian specialty coffee, produced in the forests of Manggarai.
Thanks to a friend who is a roaster and coffee shop manager in Rodez, Aveyron, the coffee was served to me in the proper way: ground in an artisanal mill, then brewed in a filter, its most subtle flavors were revealed. A blend of sweetness and bitterness, finesse and character, a caress for the palate. To be honest, as a novice, I had never felt such richness, such refinement in my mouth when drinking coffee.

Kafe de Flores surprised me in a good way. Their Manggarai Natural was pleasant to drink- without the overwhelming acidity and the usual astringency I find in many other beans.
